Frequently asked questions about clinical hypnosis:
What is
clinical hypnosis?
Clinical hypnosis is an altered
state of consciousness, awareness or perception; often used to treat
physical or psychological problems.
For example, many patients suffering
from irritable bowel syndrome, a painful disorder that does not generally
respond well to conventional treatments, have found relief through
clinical hypnosis. Under hypnosis, you will
be in a highly relaxed state during which your conscious and unconscious
mind are focused and receptive to positive therapeutic suggestion.
All hypnosis is self-hypnosis.
Hypnosis is not something done to you. You will learn
to achieve a hypnotic state through repeated instruction and practice.
Dr. Colt facilitates and teaches you to achieve this pleasant, relaxed state.
Depending on your needs and desires, he may record a session for you to
use between or in place of repeated sessions. Chronic pain patients
are examples for when this is done.
The American Medical Association
(AMA) approved the use of hypnosis as an appropriate therapeutic technique
in 1958. The American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH) was founded
in 1957. Hypnosis is completely safe when used professionally.
You will experience a pleasant and refreshing relaxation.

What training and experience do you have?
Dr. Colt has been trained by the
American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH),
the largest U.S. organization
for health and mental health care professionals using clinical hypnosis.
While there are many claiming to provide clinical hypnosis, when choosing a
qualified hypnotherapist, we recommend you choose one trained by the ASCH
or the Society for Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis. Trained in an
APA-accredited clinical psychology
doctoral program, including an APA-accredited neuropsychology internship,
Dr. Colt is a full member of the ASCH and a licensed mental health
practitioner in the States of California, California and Florida. He began his private practice
in San Diego in 1994.
